Sunday round-up Christmas Eve 2023

I want to wish all readers the compliments of the season, however you celebrate it. Thank you so much for supporting me by subscribing to Writing from London. I am immensely grateful for your backing.

In the past week I’ve written about the power of ideology to twist our appreciation of art, and on how a Russian victory in Ukraine would tear the West apart. There is also a podcast on the cruelty, cynicism and stupidity of the British government’s treatment of refugees.

As it’s Christmas week, I will go off the normal news agenda (assuming, of course, that the “agenda” allows us to take a break). Quite a few people have asked about writing for Substack. I can’t pretend to offer a self-help course, but I am working on a piece which will tell you what I have learned from my year on this site. I will also send out my favourite pieces of the year with updates.
